Four-Gore Kirtle

The cut of this tunic is based on the Bocksten find, a 14th century tunic found in a peat bog in southern Sweden. This basic style seems to be used for both men's and women's garments. Here I've made it full-length for a woman. It's crafted out of pumpkin-colored linen, with four triangular shaped gores set into the front, back, and sides. Gussets under the sleeve give full range of arm movement while still having a relatively fitted bust and waist. I used a matching linen bias binding around the scoop neckline.

This style is clean, simple, and easy to wear. I pair it with a fitted shift of the same basic cut in white linen.
